Laboratory Director - Molecular Genetics

Position Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Laboratory Director to lead our Women’s Health division. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in Hereditary Cancer Screening, Prenatal Carrier Screening, and Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT).

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, interpret, and sign out patient reports in a timely and accurate manner
  • Manage the staff of the molecular lab, including recruitment, development, and evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, NYS, Joint Commission, and CAP
  • Lead new test development and perform assay validation studies
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, and quality control and compliance programs
  • Provide clinical and technical expertise in support of new initiatives relevant to molecular testing
  • Develop and maintain laboratory budget
  • Ensure lab processes and workflows are continuously reviewed and monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all documents needed for inspection. Ensure successful inspections and initiate timely remedial action as appropriate

Job requirements and qualifications:

  • M.D. or Ph.D. in a Biological Science
  • ABMGG or equivalent certification in Clinical Laboratory Genetics (Molecular/Cytogenetics)
  • Eligible for New York State Certificate of Qualification in Genetic Testing & Molecular Genetics
  • 3+ years of experience working in a Clinical Molecular Laboratory
  • 2+ years of experience working as a Clinical Laboratory Director
  • Previous experience working with Next Generation Sequencing Platforms and Bioinformatics
  • Previous experience working with women’s health testing
  • Experienced in CAP, CLIA, and State and Federal regulations and certification standards
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Outstanding oral and written communication competencies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude are essential
